A snorkeler almost lost his toes when he was assaulted by a shark off the Galapagos Islands however got away after consistently punching the frightening ocean predator.

At the health center, Newman saw medical professionals sew his tendons back together and his leg is now in plaster cast to reset a damaged bone in his foot. He got 12 stitches in his foot and will likely need surgical treatment after his arrival in the U.K. on Wednesday.

Newman, the CEO of digital ad agency DOOH.com, took a trip to the Galapagos Islands to “find my faith in life again through nature” after the abrupt death of his partner Damon in 2016.
